NETSCOUT Leverages AI/ML to Guard Critical IT Infrastructure
Enhanced Capabilities to Combat AI-Enabled DDoS Threats
NETSCOUT SYSTEMS, a leading provider of performance management, cybersecurity, and DDoS attack protection solutions, announced updates to its industry-leading Arbor Edge Defense (AED) and Arbor Enterprise Manager (AEM) products. These updates are part of the Adaptive DDoS Protection Solution aimed at combating AI-enabled DDoS threats and protecting critical IT infrastructure.
According to NETSCOUT’s DDoS Threat Intelligence Report, application-layer and volumetric attacks have increased by over 43% and 30%, respectively. The rise in DDoS-for-hire services has made attacks easier to execute and more sophisticated. The Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) recently released a cybersecurity advisory emphasizing the need for improved controls to prevent and detect malicious activity. This highlights the necessity for enterprises to adopt protective solutions to minimize business risks.
Challenges in Modern IT Environments
“According to recent IDC research, IT environment complexity is often the top challenge to an organization’s mitigation efforts, especially as attackers continually modulate their attack vectors using AI to challenge defenses,” said Chris Rodriguez, Research Director, Security Trust, IDC. “Organizations must invest in proactive, adaptive measures like NETSCOUT’s Adaptive DDoS Protection solution. Reactive or static mitigation lacking sophisticated intelligence increases unnecessary risks, leading to costly damage to productivity and reputation.”
AI/ML-Powered Adaptive DDoS Protection
NETSCOUT employs advanced AI and machine learning (ML) technologies in its ATLAS Threat Intelligence Feed and adaptive DDoS protection capabilities. The NETSCOUT ATLAS global threat intelligence system monitors over 550 Tbps of internet traffic in real-time, covering over 500 ISPs and more than 2,000 enterprise sites across 100 countries. AI/ML algorithms operate within the ATLAS cloud infrastructure, enabling continuous updates without requiring customer-side software upgrades.
Closed-Loop DDoS Attack Mitigation
The latest AED and AEM releases feature closed-loop DDoS attack analysis and mitigation processes. These processes automatically identify evolving attack vectors, generate mitigation recommendations, and provide the option to apply these recommendations automatically. This approach reduces downtime costs and enhances the protection of business-critical services, whether on-premises or in the public cloud.
Benefits of Adaptive DDoS Protection
“Adaptive DDoS Protection provides customers with a sophisticated feature set designed to stop the ever-evolving threats to critical IT infrastructure, which has increased by 55% over the last four years,” said Scott Iekel-Johnson, AVP, DDoS and Threat Intelligence at NETSCOUT. “We’re continually adding new capabilities to help organizations protect assets anywhere, including on-premises, private data centers, or public clouds, through a unified solution.”
Key Enhancements Include:
- Holistic management and visibility into blocking non-DDoS threats.
- A new appliance supporting up to 200 Gbps of DDoS attack mitigation capacity and high-performance decryption.
- Extended Virtual AED support for Microsoft Azure public cloud environments, complementing AWS Cloud, enabling unified hybrid-cloud DDoS protection.
These updates reinforce NETSCOUT’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions that safeguard enterprises, public sectors, and critical IT infrastructures globally.
